‘Tis the season for home refreshes! This is my first post of 2023 and I’m feeling inspired and ready to freshen things up around our house as I’m sure many of you are too. My color consulting business typically comes to a crawl towards the end of the year as everyone settles in and decorates for the holidays, but come the start of the new year everything vamps back up! Once those decorations find their way back to their bins it’s as though we have a fresh set of eyes to view our home with. Sometimes this calls for organization or purging in certain areas, sometimes furniture gets rearranged and sometimes a fresh coat of paint is in order.

I have a bit of all of the above happening around here. It’s as though removing the ‘clutter’ helps me to rethink and refocus on how I want every space to look and function. The atmosphere within our home weighs heavily on how I function personally. I don’t thrive amidst clutter and chaos. I encourage my kids (my artsy girls especially) to return things to their places once they finish an activity. That’s a work in progress.

Decor and color schemes also play a major role in how we feel in a space. At the end of last year, both Jack and I had been itching to make some changes to his home office. When we first moved into our home over seven years ago, we painted the walls a white that had a touch of greige. Paired with the bold rug, industrial shelves (that he made) and brightly colored books, it was bright and crisp. It worked well until we both tired of it and decided to take a completely different direction with a much bolder color selection.

Although most of our home is fairly neutral, Ben Moore’s Caldwell Green is a color that I’ve always wanted to use. It’s a beautiful shade with a touch of blue which keeps it from feeling like forest green. I wasn’t sure where I could use it until it struck me how perfectly it would work in the office. Jack puts a lot of trust in me and my color specifications and he didn’t hesitate when I made the suggestion.

It took a solid three coats of paint but we were both thrilled with the end result. It feels moody yet sophisticated which was confirmed when Jack told me he felt like he was walking into a swanky hotel lounge. I swapped out a few other key pieces to really update the space and pull everything together. I found these pillows at Crate and Barrel and this standing lamp at Target. I love how beautifully the brass accents compliment the wall color.

Jack designed all of the wall art himself and he had a vision for the way he wanted his bookshelves styled. The color blocked arrangements of his books add a playful element to the room that’s nothing less than eye catching.

In typical fashion, Jack is always jumping from one project to the next. It’s not rare to hear him breaking out in song on the keyboard when he needs a bit of a reset. With this setup everything is easily at his fingertips.

This desk is one of the most practical pieces in his office. With the turn of a knob it easily converts from a sitting to a standing desk which he utilizes fairly often. Not to mention it has that industrial look that’s very appealing to him.

We couldn’t be happier with how BM Caldwell Green transformed this office and I’m thrilled to have another happy client! Although Jack is the one that gets to enjoy this space daily, being right off of our front entry it’s a room that offers beautiful visual appeal to all who enter our home.

Winter Whites

I paired some of my favorite pieces together to create today’s look that I wanted to share with you. I love the look of white throughout the winter and decided to pair this tunic sweater with these faux leather pants that I recently purchased. I own this particular sweater in a few colors and obviously love the oversized yet chic fit. It’s a bit of a splurge if you can’t grab it on sale, but there’s a great dupe that you can find here in a ton of colorways. These pants are everything I hoped they’d be! They work well with cute sneaks and a sweater or heels and a dressy top and everything in between. Not to mention they are comfy and not restricting at all as some faux leather can be. Just size down one as they do run large. I also adore this coat. It has a substantial weight to it and is a great longer length (be careful if you’re petite), not to mention the beautiful color palette. My boots are old, but I linked a similar option below. ‘Tis the season, so I added a pop of red with this headband to complete the look.

I hope you’re all enjoying these weeks as we lead up to Christmas. They fly by way too quickly!

Gift Guide: For KIDS

(Click on images above to shop)

Today is all about gift ideas for the kiddos! My kids range in age from 7-13 so that’s where I feel the most versed, however I did my best to include ideas for a wider age range as well as keeping the ideas fairly gender neutral. Some of the larger gift ideas include this Crazy Cart (we have two and they are a neighborhood favorite), lego sets for the older kids (my son is hoping to find this NASA rocket under the tree and this Home Alone house is one I wouldn’t mind working on either!) and a comfy plush chair to relax/read/game in. My older two have a lot Harry Potter items on their list this year, this coloring book being one of them. We also have this trivia game that they love testing their knowledge on. I love that Cards Against Humanity came out with a family friendly game that we all can enjoy. A cute Christmas story and a festive mini waffle maker would also be hits here. I’ve become a sock snob and it’s now rubbing off on my kids! Everyone loves their Bombas and I love their great quality as well as comfort. There’s always the mini polaroid that kids seem to love (my girls each have one) and they have lots of accessories to along, such as this cute picture frame. Practically speaking, my kids always love a new water bottle and they find alarm clocks fun at their young ages (ok, maybe not my teenager). My son and his friends love these cubes as they are easy to maneuver and have magnets inside which some of the other brands do not (don’t ask me, I’m not a cuber!). The Echo Dot is another practical gift that I find beneficial for myself. Our kids each have one in their rooms which allows me to drop in to ask them questions instead of yelling from all over the house! You can also use it as a clock and play music on, which my girls take full advantage of. I hope some of these things will bring smiles to their sweet faces come Christmas morning!

Gift Guide: For HIM

Today we are moving right along to all those guys in your life. Husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles or friends, there’s something for them all! A lot of the men in my life tend to be very practical, so it only makes sense to gift them something they would put to good use. You can never really go wrong with a great pair of pj’s or slippers, especially this time of year. The same goes for a pair of snow boots for those of us that have plenty of snow in our future. My husband loves his sweats, especially because he works from home, so freshening up his wardrobe with some updated joggers or a new hoodie would certainly be appreciated. The Theragun seems to be a fan favorite…we’ll have to see if that one makes it under our tree this year! For the music lover, I love the look of this record player. It would look great in a home office. For the sports fanatic, these coveted trading cards may be exactly what he didn’t know he wanted. And for the traveler, I included a great duffle as well as a handsome looking toiletry bag. Between those and a few other odds and ends, I hope some things above help you to narrow down your shopping list!

Gift Guide For HER

Christmas shopping is in full swing and I have a few gift guides coming your way that will hopefully give you some assistance! Starting off with the ladies, I’ve gathered a number of ideas that should cover friends, sisters, mothers and daughters alike. Cozy loungewear and slippers paired with a faux fur blanket would make for a great gift bag! A festive puzzle and coffee supplies would be great to bring along for anyone that may be hosting you this year. For those on-the-go women, a splurge-worthy pullover paired with some chic pants and a cute, yet practical duffle bag would be ideal. For the traveler, anything from an amazing cosmetics bag to packing cubes or a crossbody bag would be appreciated. There’s also a handful of items that would make a great add-on to other gifts you may already have including some amazing socks, cute and festive earrings, a cute hat or cozy gloves. As much of a gift lover that I am, I love being the giver and hope these help to inspire your gift giving as well!

Neutral Layers

Colder weather has made its way in and consequently layers have quickly come in to play. I broke out my cocoon coat for the first time this season and was reminded how much I love it. I have it in a green as well, but I purchased this neutral color last year and had no idea how much I’d be gravitating towards it. They have some beautiful colorways available this year (dying over the purple) including a similar color to what I’m wearing. My pants are older, but you can find a similar style here. These chelsea boots became quick favorites last year and I know they’ll continue to be a closet staple this year as well. They are great with all of the ankle length pants that we all love right now. Varley is a brand that I’m growing more and more fond of. They are a little pricey but the quality and fit are well worth it in my book. I have their longer Vine Pullover and just recently got this cropped pullover which I’m obsessed with. It’s casual by default (you can easily pair it with leggings or joggers) but more dressy than a sweatshirt. Great ideas to add to your Christmas list!

I’m still here taking in the gorgeous fall we have been having. The weather and the views have been nothing less than magnificent. It’s been perfect sweater weather, this one in particular getting a ton of wear. I love a good quarter-zip and I’m tempted to grab it in a few more colors, especially while it’s on sale. Neutrals have really been drawing me in however. I ran with the neutral inspiration when Kathy of Magpi & Bobbin asked if I’d collaborate on a bracelet stack with her. Together we came up with a stack of bracelets that can be worn with most any outfit. It’s named accordingly as the ‘Marisa Stack‘. We also created a smaller stack of three that would be perfect for any festive holiday outfit you may have planned. I’m so thrilled with how they turned out and hope you all love them too! Kathy was kind enough to offer a 15% discount on any purchase from her site, just use code marisa15 to grab yourself some jewelry and get a head start on your holiday shopping!

Everyday Fall Style

Hey all! It’s been a busy few weeks and I can hardly believe we are jumping into November in just a few days! We have had one of the most beautiful autumn seasons that I can recall and I’ve been savoring how scenic all the views have been. Sometimes it feels as though we jump straight to winter here in PA, but that hasn’t been the case this time around.

Today I’m sharing some snaps of my everyday looks that I’ve been wearing the past few weeks. There have been a lot of new items that I’m loving and have a feeling you will too…

top / bottoms / sneakers

Some of you know that black is not what I gravitate towards but this set was too chic too pass up! It’s perfectly casual for a weekend at home but also looks adorable with a jacket over top as you run around town. I ended up in the S for the bottoms and XS for the top as it seems to run a bit large.

sweater / jeans (similar) / sneakers / hat (similar)

I had ordered this sweater last winter, so when it showed up at my door late summer it was quite a surprise! I now understand why this cashmere sweater is as popular as it is. Not only is it cozy, but the shape is exactly what I’d hoped for; a mock neck and a length that’s on the shorter side without being cropped. You may have seen me style it with my trousers here.

shirt / bodysuit / jeans (similar) / booties (similar)

Flannels are in full swing as well and I love throwing one on over a t-shirt or bodysuit (love this one).

top / pants / sneakers

If you need a comfortable on-the-go or travel pant, these are a must! I had originally ordered them in the ‘tan’ but when they arrived they were much more taupe (nearly purple) in person. They were pretty, but not what I was looking for. I ended up loving the fit so much that I decided to order them in black instead. They ran a touch big for me so I kept them in an XS instead of my typical S. The thermal top is a comfy Free People piece in one of my fav colors.

sweater / pants / loafers / sunglasses

I know there are some good dupes of this Free People sweater, but the quality of the OG is hard to beat. This is my third color in this tunic and I just adore it. It’s versatile, lady-like with it’s neckline and manges to be flattering even with its oversized fit. I do size down to an XS as it runs a bit large. The pull-on pants are a pair that I’ve have for a few years, but they brought them back again because they’re that good!

sweater / pants / loafers

I can’t get enough of these trousers lately. They’re a nice change to jeans and I can wear them with many of my sweaters with a little front tuck to define the waist. This sweater is from JCrew and I’m glad they brought this back again as well. It’s a geat, classic quarter zip that’s one of my go-to’s every year.

jacket

If you need a great rain jacket, you should check out this one. It has a large hood and a great length to it that will actually manage to keep you dry. If you are petite side however, this could overwhelm your frame, so keep that in mind.

sweater / leggings

This is another sweater that I’ve been gravitating towards this year. It’s very comfortable and comes in a couple of beautiful colorways.

My jacket / Audrey’s jacket / Madelyn’s jacket

My girls and I on one of out fall outings. I love my jacket which I grabbed on sale pre-season. It’s so warm and cozy but it does run large. If you are a true XS it may run too large for you. But otherwise I definitely recommend it!

Autumn Vibes

We are in the midst of autumn where, here in Pennsylvania, the trees fill the landscape with all of their bright and vibrant colors. It’s one of my favorite times of the year and I savor not only the colors but the crisp air before those freezing temps settle in (for far too long in my opinion!). My wardrobe has been adjusting to the change in seasons as well. I loved pairing this cashmere sweater with these new trousers over the weekend. The sweater is a classic wardrobe staple that can go from lounge to weekend to work depending on how you style it. These wide leg trousers are so comfortable with a perfect amount of stretch to them. They are available in short, regular and long lengths so you can get a fit that’s perfect for you. I’m 5’7″ in the regular length and you can see they fall just about floor length when I’m wearing flats. I completed this outfit with a pair or leopard flats that I’ve owned for years, but below you’ll find exact and similar pieces to help you pull off a similar look of your own.

Not to worry, I won’t be flooding you with holiday decor just yet! However, most of you know that all the good things sell out long before we are actually ready to deck our halls. Since Studio McGee just released their holiday collection, I wanted to share some of the pieces that caught my eye. I always appreciate their classic and neutral appeal. I do add reds and pinks to my own Christmas decor, but I always love the quality and overall style of their collections. See my picks below and shop their whole collection HERE.
