Loving Lately: Spring Jackets

I realize that by sharing this post Mother Nature is going to drop a boatload of snow on us just to keep me in place! However, the sun has been shining and we felt 50 degree weather this week, so my mind can’t help but get a little eager.

When the time comes to be able to switch from my heavy winter to coats to something a bit lighter, I don’t waste any time. Often, I’ll still layer shirts and sweaters underneath, but it’s quite freeing to ditch the heavy outerwear. As spring continues to approach (can you believe March is only a few days away?), I gathered some of my top jacket picks and broke them down into categories. Denim and rain jackets are must haves. I haven’t gone overboard with the shirt jacket trend, but I do have one or two and love their casual vibe. Quilted jackets are also having a moment, however I’ve had some in my closet for years now and I don’t feel them going out of style anytime soon. Then there’s our classic anorak and utility style jackets, which I likely own one or two (or three) too many of!

Puffed Sleeves

It’s been a bit challenging to get outdoors lately to shoot any outfits for you guys. It seems to snow every other day, so I’m either in loungewear or bundled in a puffer coat with no chance of taking it off outdoors to actually give you a glimpse of what I’m wearing! So, for today, indoor shots it is.

I shared this top in a floral print in my latest Loft try-on. I was drawn to both the stripes and the floral and with as much as I love the style of this top, I just may end up with the floral at some point as well! Puff sleeves done right give just the right amount of flare without being obnoxious. This top would pair perfectly with trousers or tailored skirts as well and it’s lightweight so would be great during the warmer months or in air-conditioning, if we can even imagine needing an air conditioner!

These jeans are new and I’m loving the vintage style. Slim fitting with a slight flair, they’re not only elongating but will also work well with various looks. I can’t wait to style them for Spring!

LOFT Try-On

The Spring arrivals continue to roll in and I’m loving it! Granted, we had yet another snow delay this morning, so I’m still focused on warmth but I’m keeping in mind pieces that will transition well over the next few months. Below are some of my favorites from my most recent try-on…I’ll include sizing details for reference as well.

top / bottoms

There was no holding me back from this matching set. The comfort level is off the charts and the color is stunning (also comes in a gorg blue). I got an XS in the bottoms and sized up to a S in the sweatshirt.

top / bottoms

The best thing about sets is that you can get more wear by mixing and matching them! I’ve had these pants for a while now and love that they are casual but a great alternative to my jeans. They do run large, I’d size down.

top / bottoms

Most of you know I don’t wear a lot of black, but this top is just so adorable I may break my own rules. The ribbing and puffed sleeves are hard to pass up. I’m wearing a small in this one. I also love the paper bag pants, especially in this olive color. They run large as well, so I recommend sizing down in them.

top / bottoms

This is the other color available in this top (I’m really itching for more colors!). Not a good color on me, but a good neutral option.

top / bottoms

Give me all the puff sleeves because, why not?? These spring colors are so cheerful! It also comes in a striped print which I saw on my way out. These jeans have such a great wash but I would have needed the curvy fit to avoid the rear gap for myself. I’m wearing a small in the top and sized down one in the bottoms.

dress

I always want to love this babydoll style of dresses but they just aren’t me. If they are you, this one is cute, comfy and casual. I’m wearing the small.

sweater / dress

I could see it with a denim jacket looking adorable. I gave it a shot with this cardigan for a super casual look.

sweater / pants

This sweater could take you through summer with white denim and cut-off shorts and head straight into next fall! I’m wearing the small and paired with with these drawstring pants. I can’t find this color online yet, but linked the same style in other colors.

shirt / pants

This pin-striped tunic shirt feels so fresh for the coming months. It’s a great basic to have on hand for layering but it would look fantastic with a tan and some white denim! I’m wearing the xs in the top.

shirt / sweater / pants

I’ve been on the hunt for cardigan this length and style for a while now. I love the oversized, chunky fit. I had a hard time deciding on what color I loved the most…

sweater / shirt / pants

So many great color options! I love working our way out of the muted colors and into both pastels and brighter hues of spring!

Layered Up

Winter is in full swing for many of us, in the northeast especially. I don’t mind the snow (ice is another story), but I am not a fan of being cold. I honestly love the beautiful snow that we’ve been getting lately and I’m an even bigger fan that my kids are capable of getting all their gear on without much assistance! Those years of layering and un-layering all that gear are exhausting!

Yesterday we went sledding with friends, so I layered up to join everyone. I couldn’t be a bigger fan of this NorthFace jacket. I purchased it during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year (in the middle of the summer mind you), and that purchase is certainly paying off! This jacket keeps you warm which is very impressive based on how thin and light-weight it is. I love that it’s not overly puffy and that they included a drawstring which allows you to cinch the waist as desired. It also comes in a number of beautiful color options to choose from.

I don’t own snow pants, but these Spanx leggings kept me warm until the snow eventually saturated them. They are thick yet comfortable and make a great flattering, everyday legging as Spanx does best. I’ve had my Hunter boots for well over a decade and they are still going strong. I’ve been tempted to get a pair of winter Sorel boots and I may at some point, but honestly, these boots along with a liner, have done the trick for me.

Shop the Look:

Happy Friday! Holy cow did this week get away from me! With two and a half snow days for the kids, the second half of the week has felt like a whirlwind of catching up on all the things. We don’t have a ton going on this weekend, but that seems to be the new norm these days and I’m still ok with it :)

It’s been a bit since JCrew has had a major sale, and with most of the store being 30% off today (and my cart filling up quickly) I figured I’d share some of my top picks for the family. A bit of a winter to spring transition in apparel…staying warm but brightening things up a bit! My sunglasses, which are a favorite and not always a part of their sales are included and these fan fav sweater blazers are 50% off!

Have a great one!!
