It’s been a year and a half since we brought Crate & Barrel’s Lounge II sectional into our home and my only regret is having waited so long to decide on it! We knew our family room needed something big and cozy for our family of five, but making such a big (and expensive) decision felt daunting.
I knew I loved the shape which has clean lines and can fit into a multitude of design styles. I tracked this particular sofa down on a few trustworthy blogs to read everything I could, but still wanted to make sure that it was right for us. We don’t have a store nearby, so we made the trek to visit one a of couple hours away. We tied kids activities into the trip as well, so everyone was happy ;)
My two concerns were size and fabric. You know color was important to me, but so was durability. And when it came to size, there seemed to be endless options, but I wasn’t sure what was right for our space.
The Lounge II line includes chairs, sofas and sectionals in just about any shape or size you desire. We knew we wanted a sectional for our family room, but I couldn’t decide if we wanted the deep seat of the Lounge II or if we would rather the Petite version which shaves off fives inches from the seat (still leaving you with a good sized sofa). Sitting on it in person was very helpful. If I were looking to put this in our living room, Petite is likely what I would go with. But being that we would be using this in our family room to lounge on and watch movies and hang out with friends and family, the full-sized Lounge was what we ultimately decided upon. It is big and deep and our family absolutely loves it. It can easily seat eight adults and even more when you squeeze in.
We chose their Taft fabric in Cement and I couldn’t be happier with this neutral, woven upholstery. From afar it comes off as a light fabric, but up close you can see the texture that comforted me knowing with three young kids, mishaps could be somewhat disguised. This particular fabric is also labeled as being ‘family friendly, easy care, stain-resistant, highly durable, and made in the USA’. We don’t do a ton of eating in that room, but I’m happy to report that any marks have easily come up and it continues to look brand new (1.5 years later).
The cushions are all loose which allows me to go through every few months and flip them around. I do this both to the seat as well as the back cushions and it’s kept them in great shape. The seat cushions are fairly firm which was a welcome change from our previously beaten down couch.
It also came with five accent pillows in the same fabric, but I have since changed those out to add more personal style.
I grabbed my girls for a picture so that we could help give you a better idea on its size. At 5’7″ my feet don’t go anywhere near touching the ground when I sit back. So if you’re not looking to curl up and get cozy, this may not be the sofa for you. The Petitie may be a better alternative if that’s the case.
It’s honestly our favorite piece of furniture in our home and the one that gets the most use without a doubt. It was a big purchase, but worth every penny in my book! If you have any questions, be sure to leave them below and I’ll get back to you.

Would you say this color is a true gray or a bit tan? When I think cement I think gray, but in certain photos it looks somewhat tan. Also, in the reviews on the website some people mention this fabric being itchy and pilling. Have you noticed any of those things?

Hi Lana! To me the color comes off more like a greige…so in between grey and greige. A really great neutral. We’ve had ours for about a year and a half now, use it daily and haven’t had a bit of pilling. Nor do I find it itchy. I honestly love the fabric which still looks brand new.

Hi Amanda, I can’t speak with certainty on this issue as we only just got a puppy and she does not shed. What I can say, is that the weave it pretty tight, so I’d venture to say it shouldn’t be a problem. Have you ordered a swatch? It should give you good idea as to what the fabric is like.

They are not attached! Which is great because I can flip them back and forth to keep their shape.

Thanks for reviewing! I’ve been looking at this couch for over a year, lol! One thing I’m struggling with is whether or not to get a chaise lounge on one of the ends (the one that will be facing our TV). I’m afraid that although it will be super comfy w/the chaise, it will look too big and hulking.

Oh I hear you. I researched and tracked down everyone I could to ask questions before deciding on it! In my opinion, I don’t miss having a chaise at all. This sectional is gigantic making it very easy to curl up on any part of it. At 5’7″ if I sit straight up against the back, the edge hits at mid calf. So, not full length, but very deep. And if I sit in the corner of the sectional my feet don’t hit the edge! Hope that’s somewhat helpful.
Hello—I have read that the couch is stuffed with feathers and the feathers begin to poke out from the cushions and it’s is very uncomfortable. Is this true?
That hasn’t been our experience. We’ve had ours for close to 2 years now and I’ve only seen a few feathers (probably less than 5) come out thus far.
I have had a really bad experience with the feathers in this couch, they poke out everywhere. Dozens of them at any given time. The fabric collects quite a bit of dust, and when I’ve removed the fabric from the cushions to wash them, both the cushions and inside of the fabric are coated in feathers that I have to pluck off by hand. It’s awful.
It’s comfortable, but for me it ends there. We’ve had the sofa for about 3.5 years, and I’ve been disappointed from the moment it arrived.
Oh that’s so frustrating. I’ve had people reach out to ask me about this same concern but we just haven’t experienced it. I even went out to remove the cushion to take a look inside and I don’t see any signs of feathers. I’m curious if CB may have made a change to the covering after hearing feedback? We’ve had ours for two years, so I wonder if something may have been updated since yours was purchased. Have you tried reaching out to their customer service?

Oh I really appreciate this post! I am vacillating on purchasing this and was at the store again today. Does the terrible sounding feather issue only happen with the Taft weave I wonder?
Hi Karyn! In all honesty, I do not know why some people have the feather issue and others do not. As you can see in my post, we have the Taft fabric in cement and we have seen very few feathers over the 2.5 years we’ve had ours. Nor do they appear when I open the covers to the cushions. It may be worth reaching out to CB to get their input as I’m assuming they’ve dealt with this complaint as well.
This was true for our couch but ONLY with the pillow inserts that came with it. Feathers weren’t coming from the actual couch. :) We just replaced the pillow inserts.

Did you have an issue getting it through a normal size door? We just ordered the chaise sectional and are hoping it can fit! Love this couch.
We did bring it in through our double doors, but I would imagine it could fit if turned on its side….crossing my fingers!
Curious if it fit through your normal door. I ordered mine almost fully based on this article, it made me feel so good about the purchase I was nervous to pull the trigger on. Now almost 9 months later it’s finally delivering next week and I’m suddenly panicked about it fitting in my door. It’s just a normal size door but I’m in a condo and have one single entrance. That’s so exciting!! You shouldn’t have any issues with its arrival. It comes in three pieces which, turned on their side should easily fit through your door. You’ll have to report back once it’s in!

Hi Mia, we have the three piece sectional and none of our cushions/pillows are attached. I’d reach out to Crate and Barrel to confirm details on the 4-piece as I do not have that answer.

How is the fabric? Is it soft? Scratchy? I want this couch but I have 2 hair dogs and am afraid their fur might get woven into the fabric (I’ve had this problem in the past). Is the stitching tight, would you say? Thanks a lot :)
Hi Jenni, some of this is somewhat subjective. The fabric is not scratchy, but it’s not soft either. It’s structured (which is why I like it) but comfortable. It does have a pretty tight weave but I do not have pets, so I don’t want to make assumptions about that. They do have a number of fabric options (ours is the Taft) and I’d recommend ordering a few swatches to compare. The swatch was a great representation for me as I was making the decision for myself.

Hi Marisa! We are building a farmhouse and I have been researching and researching sectionals and couches. I go back and forth, but think we have decided on the sectional. rather than 2 large couches. I will go look at the petite too, since I think the regular may be too deep for us. I noticed that you mentioned the size of your room as 18′ X 22′. We have an open floor plan that includes the living area, dining area then kitchen island in the kitchen. The open room is 23′ X 34′. I am a wee bit concerned about fitting the sectional and a DR table. I’m looking in your room and it seems you have plenty of open space. Would you say that the sectional feels rather large for the room or just right? I’m excited, since so many (unpaid) reviews are so good on this one. Also, side note, my walls will be SW Repose Gray.
Congratulations on your new home! To answer your question, the sectional feels like it fits our space perfectly. It’s large but doesn’t overwhelm the room and holds a ton of people which is what we wanted. I’m not sure what fabric you were looking into, but with the Taft, Cement, Repose would work, but you may also want to look into a slightly warmer gray if that’s a possibility with the rest of your space. It’ll be exciting to see it all come together!

Has anyone with this couch experienced the edge showing the countour of a person’s legs who were sitting there? I got my couch about 2 months ago and the end cushion, the one you can’t flip, has leg indents on the edge where someone sits. I have shaken it out, vacuumed it but luck. Any ideas?

Hi Sara, we haven’t had this issue, but I do flip our cushions every month or so (I swap one end cushion with the opposite end cushion).

Hi Michelle, that’s a debate I had as well. It certainly depends on the way you’re going to be using this sofa. If it were in my living room, which is more of a conversation place, I’d go for the petite. Ours however, is in our family room, which is where we lounge, hangout, watch movies etc. It’s definitely a sofa to curl up, relax, cross your legs etc. But at the same time when people prefer to ‘sit’ they prop a pillow or two behind them. We’ve had numerous groups of people over the years and I will say everyone always positively comments on it. Hope that helps!
Hello , we’ve had our lounge 11 3 piece sectional couch for 3.5 yrs . Its only my husband and i and we are both average weight . Im upset that not only do our couch cushions give off a bunch of feathers but more important our cusions are dipping and deflated. We love the couch otherwise but this couch quality should last better. I would like to know if there is anyway i can get new cushions or have mine restored restuffed ?
Hi Kathleen, that’s frustrating that you’re dealing with those issues. Have you reached out to C&B directly? I’ve had a few others mention that they have also dealt with the feathers pulling through, but everyone seems to have purchased theirs prior to ours. I’m wondering if C&B has changed the way they now wrap the cushions as we have only seen a few feathers in the two years we’ve owned it. We also flip and rotate our cushions on a fairly regular basis to keep everything wearing as evenly as possible. I hope they’re open to assisting you with this issue!

I see many reviews for the Lounge II sofas/sectionals but I don’t see very much for the Peyton. I am wondering if you tested the Peyton as well when you were considering purchasing your Lounge II? The reason I ask is because I am worried that the Lounge II may sink/easily become flatter overtime due to the seat softness (being on the softest end of the spectrum per CB) vs. the Peyton is in the middle. As well, do you ever find the Lounge II too soft/is there enough ‘structure’/’firmness? Thank you !
Hi Christy! Unfortunately I did not try out the Peyton so I’m not able to compare the two. In my opinion it leans more firm than soft. Especially when compared to a PB sofa that we also have. It has kept its shape and structure for the 2.5 years we’ve had it with a lot of everyday use.

Not sure if you’ll find this comment useful now, but I recently went to the store and tried out the lounge and peyton. The peyton was a close second for me. I found it comfortable especially in the back. It’s lower to the ground than the lounge, but I ended up going with the lounge for aesthetic reasons. The arms on the peyton are a bit wide for my preference.
Thanks for the great review. It was really nice to see the Taft material and color in some actual photos, and hear that it’s beld up well. I will 2nd everything you have said. We have had our Lounge sofa for 6 years now and after moving to a new house are considering a new larger one and moving our 2 piece sectional to the basement. As Marisa stated, it’s extremely comfortable, durable, and nice looking. Our family and friends all comment about it being super comfortable and huge. We purchased ours in an upgraded fabric that has been amazing. With a large dogs, young kids, it has been great. Easy to clean, hides the hair and doesn’t collect it. We have noticed a few feathers coming out, but not enough to be bothersome. The cushions have held their shape incredibly well, and with our version you can only flip one of the 3 bottom cushions, and the back cushions. While the sections are deep, the frame is not very tall so moving it has never been an issue.
Only negative, if you can call it that is that it’s deep. As prior posts have mentioned it’s a great family room couch, for sitting back and relaxing. I am a large individual at over 6’5” and find that sitting on the couch regular a bit odd to keep my feet on the ground. While my wife is 5’6” and has no issue putting her feet up. Now to decide on a new fabric.

I have a large rug in my living room as well, but with 3 pets it is always dirty… so I feel like it makes the rest of the room look not put together. I have even tried professional rug cleaners. How do you keep your rug looking so clean and nice?
Hi Sarah! That’s the ever evolving challenge, right?! If professional carpet cleaners aren’t able to tackle it for you I wonder if looking into a Ruggable rug might be a good option for you? Although I don’t own one personally, from what I’ve seen they appear to be very practical for situations like yours!

Hi Laura. In answer to your question, I’m not positive that two adults could lay side by side on the petite version or not. I’d venture to say that’s a tight squeeze though. We sat on the petite when we were in the shopping/research phase, but it’s been a number of years at this point. I do recall sitting on the petite sofa and feeling like it still felt as though it was deep for a ‘regular sized’ sofa. But ultimately, we wanted the ‘extra’ deep. You’ll have to update with what you decide!
Thank you for the detailed post. We are thinking about getting this sofa and it was very helpful. One question I have is that if the bottom seat cushions are detachable. I’ve always had a problem of seat cushions sliding out so I have to constantly tuck them back in under the back cushion. It will be very helpful if you could share your experience. Thank you!
Hi Erin! The seat cushions (as well as the back cushions) are not attached to the sofa. They are removable which I appreciate because I am able to take them off, vacuum under them and flip/rotate them to keep the sofa in great condition and to allow it to wear evenly. There’s plenty of activity on the sectional with kids jumping around and we don’t have any issues with the cushions sliding out on us. Hope that helps!
I have the Lounge II Sofa and it leaks feathers and sags regardless of how often you vacuum/fluff/rotate it… I even got a replacement and am having the same issue. Go with another option if you can!

Hi it’s been three years since this post, I’m curious how your sofa is holding up? How many years have you had it total? Does the upholstery pill? Do the bottom cushions maintain their shape? Thanks so much for all the responses you’ve made, it’s super helpful.
We have now had this sectional for 5 years!! Honestly, we love it just as much as the day we got it. I wouldn’t say it looks brand new, but pretty darn close. Any spills have easily come up (I love Folex) and I’m pretty diligent about vacuuming and flipping both the seat and back cushions every other month or so which does wonders in helping it to keep shape. No pilling either, the fabric is awesome. Definitely one of my favorite home purchases.

Hi there! We do have a dog but she doesn’t shed so I’m not sure I can accurately answer this question for you. It’s a pretty tight weave however, so I would venture to say you’d be safe, but again, I can’t say for certain. If you order a fabric sample that may be helpful.

I know there was a question a long time ago somewhat on this topic but thought I’d ask. We’re considering this couch but wanting it to be on the beige side of greige. Our space has a lot of natural light and we bought a different couch that should be a beige gray and most definitely looks gray which I don’t like.
Would you say it pulls/looks more gray or beige? Your space looks like it has natural light too, so thought I would ask.

Hi Katie! Loosely speaking, I’d say it’s a greige. But more technically, it closely falls between a violet gray (which would be a warm gray) and taupe (which is a mix of violet gray and pink beige). The fabric is a nice blend which gives this flexibility.
