a lovely living

My first Birchbox

Last week I received my very first Birchbox and was giddy with excitement while going through it. My daily routine rarely changes and this is in large part due to the fact that I hate spending money on products that I never know if I will like. I know that a lot of stores honor returns, but there are far too many options out there and that’s just too much work. I stick to what I am comfortable with and know will do the job. Birchbox has crossed my mind a time or two but I finally caved and decided that $10/per month was worth being able to sample a large number of beauty products without risk. I’m glad I did!

First to note is their packaging. I do a lot of shopping online and I always appreciate when items arrive beautifully packaged.

This months box included Davines three step hair system, Youngblood Hi-Definition Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder, Oscar de la Renta live in love body scrub, Colorclub Wonderlust in Reign in Spain, and a cute set of postcards featuring various cities.

After trying out all of the products, here are my thoughts.

The shampoo/conditioner worked well, but I can’t say I like them better than the Aveda products I typically use. Their oil however, has really impressed me. I used it to finish my hairstyle and loved the way my hair felt (and smelled) with it on. It didn’t weigh my hair down or make it greasy which has happened with a few oils I have tried previously. I may be making a purchase here.

I also really liked the mineral powder. I have been using BareMinerals makeup for years and I love it. I added this after my primer (which I always do out of habit) and before putting on my foundation. I did feel that my makeup lasted longer, well towards the end of the day. Do I like it enough to purchase? We’ll see.

The body scrub had an amazing scent and made my shower feel luxurious, but I probably won’t be spending the money on this since my Caress can do the trick.

Finally, the nail polish. The color was fun, probably not something I would have picked up in the store, so it was a nice addition to my collection.

BB6Overall, this first box was well worth the $10.

Do you subscribe? What do you think of it? And if not, do you ever contemplate subscribing?
