a lovely living

For those of you that follow along on my Insta-stories, you saw that we made a pit-stop during our ride home from the beach. It was a rather impromptu stop that was a result of my youngest dirtying her diaper when we were about 20 miles out from passing the mall. My mind quickly raced and I managed to talk my husband into taking the girls to a play area (post diaper change of course!) while I made a quick trip through Nordstrom with my son tagging along. He’s much more camera shy than my daughters are ;) I was literally like a kid in a candy shop while I snagged everything I could and rushed to the fitting room. What I found were a ton of adorable fall pieces, most of which are versatile enough to dress up or down depending on your lifestyle. I had a very difficult time not taking most of it with me and chances are likely I’ll order a few more of these things in the coming month or so! Gotta keep that budget in check though….ugh! ;) Alright, let’s get to it….

This sweater is adorable in person. This was the first piece of Cupcake and Cashmere’s collection that I’ve ever tried on and I’m not surprised at all that I loved it. I’ve followed Emily’s blog for nearly a decade. It was one of the first blogs I ever started following and remember reading it before I even had Jack (who’s now 8). I love her style and was happy to see her things in person!

Isn’t this sweatshirt adorable? The collar is removable but who would ever want to take it off?? For washing I suppose ;) Think about pairing this with denim and sneaks or a cute pair of trousers and heels!

Another adorable sweatshirt with cuff and collar details. This one comes in a few other colors as well. Love it!

This embroidered jacket is too cute. Check out the back…

…right?!

And while we’re talking jackets, I tried on this denim jacket by Madewell while I was there. I loved it but didn’t get it until I came home…and ordered when Madewell had a sale going on! I have a denim jacket that I love in a darker wash, but the fit of this one was so great that I caved. I have on an XS here but ordered a S as the sleeves were a tad too short on me and I didn’t have any wiggle room in the shoulders. I read through a number of their reviews as well and many also recommended sizing up. Can’t wait to receive this one, although I’d be ok if I didn’t need it for a few more weeks ;)

Another hard to pass up piece. This dress is incredibly comfortable and the sleeves obviously are icing on the cake. I’d love wearing this with booties and a pretty fall scarf or pendant necklace!

This top was super cute. It comes in a smokey pink that they were out of but I would have loved to see in person. I’m wearing a S here but would have taken an XS had they had one in stock, so I’d say it’s pretty true to size, if not slightly large.

I get that this one isn’t for everyone, but how fun?! It also comes in a few other subdued colors if you wanted to take it down a few notches ;)

I love the details on this crewneck sweater. Perfect for a work environment! I can’t find this exact color combo online, but here it is in a few other colors.

I loved this Madewell top. It was hard to capture, but the ruffle detail travels the whole way down the sides. It has an oversized fit but would be cute with a front tuck or even tied in the front. I can only find this other pattern on the Nordstrom site, but here it is at Madewell.

Don’t worry, I didn’t grow an extra set of arms, I just had an 8 year old that was losing patience ;) I brought this dress home with me because I fell for the color and the drapey fit and can hardly wait to pair it with some OTK boots and (eventually) a cardigan.

Cute blouse, but wait for it…

My gosh, I’m such a sucker! Give me all the ruffles and bows!

And since back details seem to be a running thread today…

I love what the v-back does for this sweet and simple tee.

The beautiful fall colors are what drew me to this top. I would have loved to try on an XS (they only had a S in store), but I love the shape to it as well as the elastic hem.

And finally a pretty sweatshirt because if you’re anything like me, you can’t get enough of them in life!

I didn’t get a good shot, but I am wearing these jeans in the above pictures. I love the slim straight trend going on and these had a great fit. I wasn’t looking for denim, but they still get two thumbs up from me (and now all I can hear is my two year old in my head repeating ‘fumbs up’ :)

That’s all I’ve got for now! What was your favorite piece??

    Hi Marisa,
I loved the stripped sweater, the ruffled sweatshirt, and the embroidered jacket. Can you tell me what size in each that you tried on. I’m thinking of ordering and not sure if I should get XS or S. Thank you!!

Hi Charlotte! I have on an XS in the striped sweater but if I would have bought it I probably would have grabbed the small for a little wiggle room. The ruffled sweatshirt was an XS and I’m pretty sure the jacket was as well!
