Plaid Cape

img_2216

Need another great reason to love fall? Capes. How could it get much better than wrapping yourself in a blanket and calling yourself stylish?! Especially for all of my pregnant friends (no, I am not, but many friends and family are), you need to run with this look. With quite the array ranging from oversized scarves to structured jackets, capes are certainly making a statement. Although mine has sold out online, it can still be found in stores and I have a bunch of options for you to check out below as well!

Foxy

img_2078

Our weather this week allowed me to be out and about jacket-less more than a few times! I know that time is running out, but it’s a nice change of pace no matter how short lived. Also, speaking of time, don’t forget to change your clocks back this weekend! I saw someone post on FB something to the effect of, ‘Don’t forget to change your clocks back and you get….nothing, you get NOTHING because you are a parent!’ Haha! Oh the joys :)

Anyway, have you guys noticed that the fox has made it’s way not only onto children’s apparel, but onto women’s as well? This cute top came from the ladies at a local boutique, Helen Foxx, but as I began searching I came across more than a few adorable pieces for all of you. I layered this one under a wrap sweater, which is a fun alternative to cardigans and pullovers. Also, I’m still loving these fringe booties and check out their cute sister bootie that I found, here!

Layering Basics

Hey ladies! It’s November and I successfully made it through my month of no shopping, whoo hoo!! You’d think I’d be to ready to run and hit the ‘purchase’ button on all of my shopping carts, but surprisingly, I’m doing alright. I did place one order because there was a sale, but all in all it was fun exploring and shopping my closet over the past month and I plan on continuing that trend in the coming months.

I know so much of the talk around fall is about layering, layering and more layering! Granted, much of that is thanks to vests, jackets, sweaters, scarves and other cold weather accessories, but when it comes to layering it’s always good to start with a great base. And in this case, I’m referring to base as the shirt or tee that you use as your first layer. When you find that adorable sweater or beautiful blanket scarf you need to first make sure that you have the appropriate pieces to pair with them in order to make your outfit feel complete. Today I’ve gathered a dozen of my picks for you to consider for your base layer. Although solids are a must in your wardrobe, it’s also fun to keep various prints (stripes are obviously one of my favorites) and colors on hand as well. That camel moto jacket would look great with a white tee, but just imagine it paired with a striped mustard turtleneck…that would take it to a whole new level. What about having a touch of lace peeking out from one of your sweaters? Or consider throwing a burgundy tee under a blush cardi to create a beautiful, soft and feminine look. I could throw out a million different variations here, but take a look into your own closet and reconsider the way you’ve been pairing things. The switch of a few basic pieces could easily help transform your wardrobe with a considerably small investment!

Turtlenecks + Overalls

img_2131

Happy Halloween!! My kids are eagerly awaiting this evening where they’ll get to roam the neighborhood and gather all their loot! My favorite part though, is making our way back to our home and passing out candy from our porch and watching all the adorable little ones…and the bigger ones that seem as though they are hanging on to trick-or-treat just a year or two too long ;) Audrey (the baby) is going to be a pig and Jack and Madelyn both settled on farmers. It’ll likely take two farmers to keep control of that piglet anyway! Heck, with my overalls I just may throw on a plaid shirt and join in the fun :) Speaking of overalls, for any of you that are still feeling hesitant about them, fall is the perfect time to give them a shot. Layering with a cardigan or jacket gives the perfect amount of disguise to ease any of your trepidations. And for those that are all over the trend, I love wearing mine with a turtleneck to pair a side of classic with the trend. I’d love to grab one or two of these basic turtlenecks as well.

Fall Decor Updates

Today I’m sharing some easy and fun updates that you could incorporate into your home for the fall season. You’ll find what follows is a mix of neutrals with some pops of color which makes for an easy way to update for the season! As the temperatures drop, keeping a lantern by your fireplace or mantle can add a sense of warmth to your home. The same goes for a cute basket filled with a throw or two. Many of you will certainly be doing some entertaining over the next few months and what an impression would this beautiful magnolia wreath make?! To better prepare yourself for such entertaining, this pitcher (for $14!) would likely come in handy, as would a beautiful wooden serving tray. I have a similar one myself and I use it all around my home for everything from serving desserts/coffee, to setting on a coffee table to hold books/magazines, to helping display my dining room centerpiece as it’s currently doing. I’m also obsessed with these solid velvet accent pillows. They come in an array of colors but how beautifully rich is this plum hue? I also threw on some baskets because I love being prepared for the influx of toys coming our way in a few short months!

Have you made any updates to your home lately? Sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference :)

Sweaters ($35 and under!!!)

Hey ladies! I was hit with the flu (or something of the sort) this week, but I whipped this post together quickly for you because right now LOFT’s sweaters are all $35 and under! Yes, $35 and under!! Does it feel like all the best sales are happening this month while I’m in the midst of my shopping freeze to anyone else?? At least some of you can benefit from this, so I’m happy to pass on the word ;) Below are my sweater picks from their selection, but feel free to check them all out on your own here:

Everyday Layers

img_2030

Let me be quite upfront and let you know that various forms of this outfit are my go-to at least two, maybe three days per week! Most mornings I have very little time to think about what I’m grabbing from my closet, so denim and a long-sleeved tee are what are close at hand, topped off with this jacket (that you’ve seem more than once), a pair of booties and a scarf and you’re set! Trust me, when you mix and match the shirt/shoe/scarf action your outfits multiply instantly ;) I’m sort of a scarf hoarder, but it can come in handy when you’re looking to change up your look a bit, and it doesn’t hurt to add another layer for warmth! I share some of my favorites for you to check out below, fyi.

Must-have Cardi

img_1954

Happy Friday, gang! We enjoyed quite the Indian summer here this week but I have a feeling that’s quickly coming to an end. Come next week I’m quite sure I’ll be layering up like this once again. This isn’t the first time I’ve shared this cardigan on here and who knows, it may not be the last (see how I styled my fleece cardigan here). I love the versatility of this cardigan as it could be worn with a tunic and leggings, jeans and a button up or simply thrown over a t-shirt and denim on any given day as I often do. I occasionally see these available at TJMaxx, so keep your eyes open when you’re browsing, but I also link to a few different places you can find them online below.

Sweater Weather

As I began working on this post, I quickly remembered that it was actually 80 degrees yesterday! In all likelihood, those warm temps will be short lived and sweater weather will return once again in all it’s chilly glory. And when it does, you can be prepared ;) I noticed that many of my online shopping carts were filling up with with pretty, cozy sweaters (you guys fill your carts too, right??) so I figured I would share what I’ve been checking out. I have to say, I’ve been doing well with my October clothing shopping freeze, that is, until I saw this beauty. You know how you run into those pieces every once in a while that have your name written all over them? Well, this is screaming, Marisa!!! Don’t worry, I’m staying strong, but I’ll be a little disappointed should this one be gone come November! Not that that’s the only tempting piece…I love this fun striped number and this swiss dot sweater with puffed sleeves is super sweet. I’m also looking for an open cardigan, and this, this and this are all great options. Have you added any new sweaters to your wardrobe yet this season? I sure can’t wait to ;)

Boho Chic

img_1887

I wouldn’t refer to my overall style as boho, however I love pulling from that influence every now and then. Especially when the overall look comes off looking chic when paired with some skinny jeans and heels. I did, however, switch to my laced ballet flats later in the day and loved the look just as much. I found this top last month at a sweet new boutique in a neighboring town, Helen Foxx & Co. My local readers need to make their way out to visit them, you won’t regret it! And for everyone else, I gathered a bunch of boho inspired tops for you to browse below that would all enable you to pull off a very similar look should you like ;)
