Weekend Steals

Happy Friday, guys! Between a migraine and rainy weather this week, any plans I had of shooting another look were quickly thrown out the window. The good thing is, there are plenty of sales for me to share with you at some of my favorites.

I love the Free People brand, and I’ve been finding some of their best prices at Macy’s. This cozy cardigan is more than 60% off at the moment! And this asymmetrical sweater is a favorite of mine this year. This coat is very similar to my green JCrew cocoon coat that I adore. Check out the great colors it comes in and is currently under $100! Anthropologie doesn’t offer sales as frequently as some of my other favorite stores, but when they do it’s always worth checking out. I wouldn’t mind grabbing this comfy little number.

Take a look and let me know what you find!

Anthropologie: 25% off dresses/jumpsuits, 20% off tops/jackets/sweaters, 15% off pants/denim/skirts

JCrew: Clearance event, up to 70% off

JCrew Factory: 40-50% off outerwear for the entire family

Macy’s: Extra 25% off purchase with code FRESH

OTK Boots: Under $150

Over the knee boots have come a long way. Years ago it seemed almost promiscuous to wear them…think Pretty Woman here ;) Now we wear them around with skinny jeans and over-sized sweaters which is much more up my alley! As they started to gain more momentum a few years ago, it seemed impossible to find a quality pair that was under $250. But as I spent some time curating my favorites over the past few days, I was thrilled that I was able to find so many under the $150 mark. You can actually find a number of them under $100 as well, but I did my best to find the borderline where quality isn’t sacrificed….nor is style, but that’s a given, right?!

Here’s what I came up with! Great shapes, great colors and a great way to instantly lengthen those legs! ;)

Boho Floral

We spent this past weekend in NY along the Hudson with my husband’s extended family for a long overdue reunion. There were six kids, most of whom had never met one another and they had a better time than we ever could have imagined! The house we stayed in was gigantic (it held 7 families comfortably), but I spent the bulk of my time chasing down Audrey, my 2 year old, who felt she had free reign over the entire property! My father-in-law and his twin brother turn 70 next month, so we started the celebrations a bit early enjoying cake, drinks, and enough food to keep me full for a week! There were plenty of cooks in the kitchen, one who happens to be a professional chef, so this was to be expected and very much appreciated!

The horrible blogger that I am, did not pack one blog-worthy outfit. Shame on me! I suppose packing for a family of 5 had my mind elsewhere. Thankfully I was surrounded by family, and thanks to a cousin-in-law with great taste and a mother-in-law with the perfect earrings, I was able to pull this look together and take advantage of the scenery! Not to mention, this top is from Express, a store that I haven’t checked out lately, and one that I think I just may need to rediscover, because how adorable is this top?!

Now, to do my best to catch up on some sleep and jump right into the week!

Rainy Day

Happy Friday, friends! We are off and on our way to NY for my husband’s family reunion this weekend. I’m excited to see all of the children together because it’s been a few years since everyone has been together. A few things are for sure with this crowd…it will be loud (very loud), there will be plenty of laughter and there will be fantastic food (his cousin happens to be a chef!). Enduring a five hour drive with the kids will hopefully be worth it ;)

Just as we were stepping outside to shoot this look, the skies decided to open up. I was ready to call it, but my husband pushed on, got the umbrella and ran back and forth as we snapped a few shots then covered me repeatedly to keep me from getting soaked! The trees held off the rain just enough for us to get some shots and capture this look. I love this top (you first saw it here), but when I buy blouses that make a bit more of a statement, they tend to hang in my closet waiting for a night out. What I often don’t realize is that there are ways to dress these tops down and work them into my everyday. I love it paired with this long cardi which has a perfect amount of stretch to it making it that much more comfortable.

Also, these jeans…oh these jeans…I waited on them for some time and finally caved. I love them.  The fit is so good. They shape, they hug and they feel fantastic. Madewell’s quality is always top notch, especially when it comes to their denim. And when they add a bit of stretch (without over doing it), well, they just might be my new favorites!

Insta Lately

I may have started out the week by wishing people a great weekend when it was only Monday, HA, but the week really is flying by! I have my hands on a few design projects at the moment and they’ve been consuming my time, in a great way though. I do promise to start sharing some of what I’ve been working on soon, it’s in the works!

For today, I figured I’d do a little round up of what’s been happening over on Instagram. I tend to document outfits that never make it on the blog, more of the everyday stuff that tends to be on repeat for me!

I love trying to document life with a 2 yo by the way….it’s impossible! Well, that’s a lie, I can capture her on my Insta-stories, in constant movement. Always :)

Eyelet Top

I hope you all had a great weekend! My kids passed around a cold these past few weeks and this was a great weekend for them to rest up and re-coop. Madelyn, my 5 yo, in particular required a little catching up…she took a nap on Saturday that lasted nearly 4 hours! But she wasn’t tired ;) In a sense, colds drive me crazier than some of the more severe sicknesses that hit them harder. Plus, they never want to cuddle with a cold because they don’t even realize that they are actually sick. Colds just make them cranky…and whiney. Oh for the love, the whining!

Thankfully, the weather was perfectly crisp and cool and the fresh air felt amazing! I wore this outfit yesterday and I adore this top. I quickly brushed aside the fact that my husband referred to it as ‘colonial looking’! Call it what you will however, because the ruffles and eyelet detailing are right up my alley!

Bootie Roundup

Forget the weather! Regardless of whether you are experiencing 80 or 60 degree days, it is bootie season! I love sneakers, I love mules, I love knee-high boots, but my booties end up being worn the bulk of every year. They are cute, comfortable, functional and pair well with any number of outfits. From skirts to dresses, shorts to jeans, they have you covered in just about every area. Below are currently my top picks. Greys, browns, taupes, pinks, perforated and fringe details…I love them all! Floral Midi

I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine started with a brunch/Noonday party that I hosted on Saturday and ended with a birthday dinner for my dad last night. And now I’m ready to dive into Monday!

I have quite an affinity for floral dresses, well floral anything really, but midi dresses are one of my favorites. I wore this outfit to church where I knew the extra layer would be needed but my goodness it was not necessary outside! Hopefully soon! This was the denim jacket that I finally settled on recently. Ironically enough, it’s the same one that I have in a dark wash…I should have known.  This Pilcro jacket was more of a splurge (although I did manage to get it on sale), but the fit, the quality, and the structure are all exactly what I was looking for in this closet staple. It has a touch of stretch which makes it incredibly comfortable and the sleeves have plenty of length, which was an issue in others I had tried.

On a final note, I felt compelled to belt out ‘The hills are alive…” during this whole shoot, lol! Julie Andrews I am not and lucky for you, you’re on the other side of the lens because singing is not one of my God given talents ;)

Happy Friday, ladies! LOFT has a 40% off sale going on, so I figured sharing some of my favorites would be a great way to jump into the weekend, yes? I didn’t have much rhyme or reason to what I was grabbing to take into the dressing room with me, but by the end of my try on session I couldn’t get over how darn comfortable everything was! Let’s take a look and I’ll give you the details…

This top, or ‘sweatshirt blouse‘ as it’s called is the reason I went into the store initially. I had seen it before but was waiting for a sale as I typically do. It’s adorable and comfortable and will fit into my day to day wardrobe perfectly! I’m also very much into straight jeans lately and love the look of this pair. I had the ‘back gap’ (is that a thing?) as I often do in their pants, which is a bummer because I loved everything else about them.

This sleeveless sweater is so cozy! It also comes in grey and oatmeal, all great fall options!

While we’re on the cozy topic, this was the coziest of them all! This piece falls somewhere between a poncho and a sweater but has enough coverage that a shirt underneath isn’t necessary. It also comes in a pretty, neutral color. These herringbone leggings were also adorable. They actually had a bunch of fun legging options, more of which I’ll be sharing…

This outfit doesn’t really scream Marisa, but I think it’s super cute. The plaid leggings are fantastic and I love it paired with the stripes of the sleeveless sweater.

When I first tried on this sweater I thought it was cute, but I wasn’t sold…

…and then I threw on this skirt with it and wanted to walk right out of the store wearing it! I couldn’t get the camera to capture the colors in the fitting room, but they are so rich and beautiful in person.

One more adorable skirt, and again, sooo comfortable! It has a nice stretch to it and is made with a super soft denim. Great for fall (and spring and summer!).

Adorable sweatshirt-like top that could easily be dressed up or down. I’d wear it at home with sweats, throw it on with denim or even cute trousers!

Grey. Ruffled. Sweatshirt. Three of the most dreamy words combined :)

LOFT always has a cute military jacket on hand. This one doesn’t disappoint.

Ok, you’re going to be sick and tired of me saying this, but goodness girls, this dolman top is so soft, and comfortable! I love the attached shirttail detail that makes it seem as though you put even more thought into your outfit ;)

I’m going to finish off this post with some really great sweater options. This one is so flattering and the sleeves are adorable. It also comes in a few other colors! I also loved these wide-legged jeans. I needed one size down (which they didn’t have), but you can get a pretty good idea of the look here.

This Lou & Grey sweater was one of the first things I picked up.  I love the shape and the fringe. I’m wearing an XS here but probably would have sized up to a S if I bought it to get a slightly looser fit.

And finally, a super soft and snuggly sleeveless sweater to wear now and layer up later! You may also notice that I am wearing stirrup leggings! I haven’t worn stirrups since I was in grade school and I was actually hoping they’d work. They were adorable but at 5’7″ and evening sizing up they were not staying up on me. I’d say if you are 5’5″ or under you have a better chance at them working for you ;)

I hope that’s helpful and maybe you’ll find a great piece or two to add to your fall wardrobe, you know, once Mother Nature decides that it’s actually fall! ;)
