a lovely living

I love a chance to get all dolled up and weddings are a perfect excuse. However, for us, this summer/fall seems to be more about the babies than the weddings. The obvious results of all of last years weddings ;) But for those of you ladies that do have wedding plans in your future, I have worked together some lovely ensembles for you.

Cute, yes? Now when I tell you the retail prices are as follows, Slate & Willow $298/ Mark and James by Badgley Mischka $325/ Shoshanna $395, you want to punch me, right? Honestly, who wants to spend that kind of cash when chances are good that you’ll wear this dress once, possibly twice? This is where Rent the Runway enters and I tell you that you can borrow these dresses for $50/ $50/ $70. Want to hug me now?

I’m sure many of you have heard of this site before, but I’m just going to give you a little encouragement to try it out (this isn’t a sponsored post, btw).  Rent the Runway (RTR) allows you to rent a dress (in two sizes!) for four days (eight days for an additional fee). They’ll ship it to you and when you’re finished you put it in their return package and drop it in the mail, no cleaning necessary.

I’m not one to go out on a limb hoping that any dress will look fab on me. I happened to fall in love with a $400 Nicole Miller dress that I had tried on. I wasn’t planning on paying that price, but when I got home I had an email from RTR, decided to get on and low and behold, they had my dress! Lucky for me, I knew the size I needed, so I placed my order. As I mentioned, the site lets you order two sizes, but they also allow you to order a second dress (of equal or lesser value) for $25! Plus, they show user photos which give you a great idea of how it wears on different body types as well as getting to see how everyone styled their dress. As if that wasn’t enough, here’s a claim from their site: “We’re sure your dress will fit but if it doesn’t, we’ll make it right. We will never leave you without something fabulous to wear.” I don’t know exactly what that entails, but it sure sounds reassuring.

Not only do they rent dresses, but they also offer jewelry and bag rentals for reasonable prices as well.

Here are two snapshots of the dress I rented for my SIL’s wedding. Sorry for the poor quality, but you get the gist. rent runway3

My SIL is wearing a dress from Anthropologie’s wedding line, BHLDN. My bangles were also rented.

My other SIL is also wearing a Nicole Miller dress which is currently on their site in red, black, purple and purple sequin. A bunch of beauties I married into, right?!

Have I sold you yet? Just doing my best to get you all in designer dresses and looking your best for a fraction of the prices you’d be paying in store. You’re welcome ;)

Have any of you tried it before? You can book months in advance to reserve yours. Give it a shot!

PS The shoes shown above are not available for rent, but they can all be found on Piperlime.
