Crochet Shorts

crochetshort7

I don’t know what took me so long to do a post with these shorts, especially after showing you all of the crochet pieces I’ve been loving in this post. I purchased them months ago at Target and have worn them with t-shirts and chambray multiple times. They were such a great purchase because the comfort level is right up there with pj’s yet the style is anything but. I threw on this airy peasant top when we were heading out for dinner last week and I felt like it was the perfect complement to the feminine shorts.

All American Trifle

july4trifle7

I don’t know what I would do without other bloggers. I swear half of my outfit ideas and the majority of the food I make comes from the creativity of others, and I am thankful for it! Just as I was brainstorming for the 4th, this idea for a red, white and blue trifle popped into my inbox from Mix and Match Mama. Perfect for a hot summer day, this dessert is simple and sweet. And outside of chill time, the preparation is a snap. Great idea to whip up for any of your picnic plans this weekend!

Here’s the recipe that I found here from Mix and Match Mama:

Ingredients:
1 large (5 oz) instant vanilla pudding
1 can Eagle Brand Milk
1/2 cup water
1 large (12 oz) Cool Whip, thawed
1 (8 oz) container of Sour Cream
1 angel food cake, cut into big pieces
About 2 cups of fresh strawberries, sliced
About one cup of blueberries

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine pudding, milk and water with a whisk.  Refrigerate this mixture 5 minutes.
Remove from fridge and stir in Cool Whip and sour cream until smooth.
In a large trifle dish (or individual dishes), layer angel food cake across the bottom, add a layer of strawberry slices and a few blueberries over the cake then add 1/3 of your pudding mixture.  Repeat 3 times.
Finish off with a few more strawberries and blueberries on top to garnish.
Refrigerate at least 4 hours up to 2 days before serving.

My Red, White and Blue

redwhiteblue8

When it comes to dressing patriotically, I find it extremely easy to pull together blue and white (or off-white in this case, but cut me some slack). Red is typically the missing color in my wardrobe. It ‘s simply not a color that I am drawn to, so when I was trying to pull together this outfit I was almost at a loss. That’s when it came to me that red doesn’t need to be a part of my clothing, but nails and lips could easily fill that missing gap for me. I had planned on wearing a nice pair of navy pants with this top, but then I realized that we would be attending a picnic after church this past Sunday. My plans changed and I grabbed some denim instead. It changed the look, but was still fun (and more comfortable) and held my red, white and blue look together without looking forced.
